Definition

A 10-hour safety training program for entry-level workers covering hazard recognition, workplace rights, and employer responsibilities under OSHA standards.

What This Means for Your Facility

The OSHA 10-Hour Outreach Training Program is delivered by OSHA-authorized trainers and covers foundational workplace safety topics. For the general industry track (most relevant to healthcare), the curriculum includes an introduction to OSHA and worker rights, walking and working surfaces, emergency action plans, fire prevention, electrical safety, personal protective equipment, and hazard communication. The program also includes elective topics that trainers can customize to the audience, for healthcare workers, these typically include bloodborne pathogens and ergonomics.

While OSHA 10-Hour is not federally mandated for healthcare facilities (unlike construction, where some states and municipalities require it), the training provides a strong safety foundation for entry-level employees who may not have prior healthcare industry experience. It satisfies part of the training obligations under several OSHA standards and demonstrates good faith safety commitment, a factor OSHA considers when determining penalty amounts for any citations.

BayArea Compliance delivers OSHA 10-Hour training through authorized instructors as part of our training services. We offer the program on-site at your facility or as a scheduled group session, and can customize the elective modules to address the specific hazards your workers encounter. Each participant receives an official OSHA 10-Hour completion card. For supervisors and safety personnel, we also offer the more comprehensive OSHA 30-Hour program.
